Teen Driver Training & Advanced Driver Training Program (ADTP)
Helping your teen become a safe, confident, and responsible driver is one of the most important investments you can make in their future. While Delaware’s Graduated Driver License (GDL) Program provides a strong foundation for new drivers, many parents find that their teens need additional behind-the-wheel experience beyond the minimum state requirements.
At Wilmington Driving School, we offer our Advanced Driver Training Program (ADTP), designed to provide personalized instruction and additional driving experience tailored to each student’s individual needs.
Personalized Driver Assessment
Every student begins with a comprehensive driving assessment. During the initial evaluation, our instructors will:
- Interview the student to understand their driving experience
- Evaluate current driving skills and confidence level
- Identify strengths and areas for improvement
- Develop a customized training plan
Based on the results of the assessment, we create a personalized training program designed specifically for your teen’s skill level and learning goals.
Delaware Graduated Driver License (GDL) Requirements
The Delaware GDL program is designed to help teen drivers gain valuable driving experience under controlled conditions before obtaining full driving privileges.
Permit Restrictions
Throughout the GDL permit period:
- The permit must always be in the driver’s possession.
- The use of cell phones or electronic devices while driving is prohibited.
- Only one passenger is permitted unless specific family exceptions apply.
- Safe driving practices must be followed at all times.
Our instructors strictly enforce these safety standards during every lesson.
First Six Months
During the first six months after the permit issue date:
- Supervised driving is required at all times.
- Teen drivers must complete at least 50 hours of supervised driving practice.
- A minimum of 10 hours must be completed during nighttime driving conditions.
Our instructors work closely with parents to help students build the skills and confidence necessary to successfully complete these requirements.
Second Six Months
During the second six months after the permit issue date:
- Unsupervised driving is permitted between 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM.
- Supervised driving is required between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM.
- Exceptions may apply for school activities, work-related travel, and religious activities as permitted by Delaware law.
Building Confidence for a Lifetime
Driving is more than passing a road test—it’s developing the skills, judgment, and confidence needed for a lifetime of safe driving. Our Advanced Driver Training Program helps teens gain real-world experience in a supportive environment while giving parents peace of mind.
At Wilmington Driving School, we are committed to helping every student become a safe, responsible, and confident driver.
