Senior Driver Assessments & DMV Reexamination Preparation
At Wilmington Driving School, we understand that driving represents much more than transportation—it represents freedom, independence, and quality of life. As we age, changes in vision, reaction time, mobility, and overall health can affect our ability to drive safely. Our goal is to help senior drivers maintain their independence for as long as possible while ensuring the safety of everyone on the road.
We provide professional senior driver assessments, DMV reexamination preparation, and support for individuals recovering from accidents or managing medical conditions that may affect their driving abilities.
Senior Driver Assessments
Our experienced instructors evaluate driving skills, road awareness, reaction times, and overall vehicle control in a supportive and stress-free environment. Following the assessment, we provide constructive feedback and recommendations to help drivers continue driving safely and confidently.
We also work with healthcare professionals, rehabilitation specialists, and medical providers who require professional driving evaluations for their patients.
Accident Recovery & Rehabilitation Driving Support
Returning to driving after an accident, injury, or medical event can be challenging. Our specialized driving assessments help identify areas that may require additional training and provide personalized instruction to help drivers regain confidence behind the wheel.
Whether recovering from an injury or adjusting to physical limitations, we can help drivers safely transition back to independent driving whenever possible.
License Renewal for Senior Drivers
Delaware drivers of all ages are required to renew their driver’s license in person when their current license expires.
As part of the renewal process, drivers must complete a vision screening. In certain situations, the Delaware DMV may also require additional testing, including written knowledge exams or driving evaluations.
To prepare for renewal, drivers are encouraged to review the Delaware Driver Manual and familiarize themselves with current traffic laws and regulations.
Vision Requirements
During license renewal, drivers must meet Delaware’s vision standards to demonstrate their ability to operate a vehicle safely.
If corrective lenses are required to meet the vision standard, a corrective lens restriction may be placed on the driver’s license. Drivers who do not meet the required vision standard may be referred to a licensed vision specialist for further evaluation.
If you wear glasses or contact lenses while driving, be sure to bring them to your DMV appointment.
DMV Reexamination Preparation
A DMV reexamination may be required when concerns arise regarding a driver’s physical, cognitive, or medical ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
Our instructors can help prepare drivers for DMV evaluations by assessing their current driving skills, identifying areas for improvement, and providing targeted instruction before the official examination.
We work closely with each driver to build confidence, improve performance, and ensure they are fully prepared for written, vision, skills, or road tests that may be required by the DMV.
